Elevator Mechanic I


Rate of Pay: $23.71/hour + Benefits Position close date: March 7, 2017 To apply: www.jobs.msu.edu and refer to posting #4880 Position Summary To inspect, repair, maintain, modify, and fabricate mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic equipment, including electrical and electronic circuitry of passenger and freight elevator systems and powered lifts; performs safety tests in accordance with the State of Michigan regulations. This position will engage in and actively practice IPF core values (Service Excellence, Innovation, and Stewardship). Minimum Qualifications • Completion of a high school education or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience • Five years of experience in the elevator trade; or successful completion of an applicable elevator Trades Helper program or the completion of an approved apprenticeship; and demonstrated ability to independently perform the duties and responsibilities of the classification • Demonstrated ability to perform work to acceptable industry standards • Possession of a State of Michigan Class A Elevator Journeyman license • Expert knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, equipment, occupational hazards, and safety precautions of the trade • Must furnish own hand tools • Possession of a valid State of Michigan vehicle operator's license • Knowledge of basic personal computer terminology and operations and the ability to use e-mail and the Internet Desired Qualifications • Experience with Motion Control Engineering • Certification in IMC-AC, Power of I Control, PHC Hydraulic Controller, GAL Galaxy Controller, Smart Rise Engineering Controller, Hollister Whitney Machines, GAL Door Equipment; Certified Elevator Technician (CET) • QEI certified • Strong written and verbal communication/interpersonal skills • Established problem solving skills • Good customer relations/service skills; ability to work as an effective member of a team • Ability to meet MSU standards for safe driving Work Hours Work hours are typically 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and may vary to include second shift, weekends, and responding to after-hour emergencies. May be assigned to 2nd shift. Physical Demands • Duties associated with this position involve lifting and carrying up to 75 lbs., climbing and pushing/pulling up to 500 lbs.
