NC Department of Labor Elevator Inspector Salary Range: $42,667.00-$69,177.00 annually Appointment Type: Permanent Full-Time Location: Currently open–Charlotte/Mecklenburg county. However, we are continually looking for inspectors in all counties of NC. Description of Work: Positions are located in the Standards and Inspections Division of the NC Department of Labor. The Elevator Inspector inspects a variety of passenger-carrying devices to determine safe operating conditions and to detect potential hazards or mechanical failures. Enforces provisions of state and national safety codes for elevators, escalators, personnel hoists, amusement devices and the like. Position has condemnation authority of unsafe passenger-carrying equipment and conducts investigations of accidents where unsafe equipment or operations were involved. *Applicant must reside in their work area location or must relocate three months of employment. *This is a field based position and the chosen applicant will telework. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities / Competencies: Ability to accurately and precisely inspect equipment with intricate and complex systems is required. Must be able to maintain an extremely high level of visual attention and mental concentration while conducting an inspection. A working knowledge of the construction and operation of elevators, escalators and related equipment is essential. Must have working knowledge of all applicable state and national safety codes for elevators, escalators and related equipment as well as amusement devices. The inspector should have a complete working knowledge of electrical and hydraulic systems. The inspector must have the ability to be trained in using basic computer programs and simple work processing skills. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Graduation from high school and five years of experience in the construction, inspection, erection, or servicing of elevators and related equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
